Castellina in Chianti
The small town of Castellina in Chianti preserves numerous jewels of Italian art and architecture.
Among the religious buildings we mention the Church of San Salvatore in Castellina, of medieval origin, enriched by modern structures in the neo-Romanesque style and the Pieve di Sant’Agnese, of which there is evidence since 1046.
The current building, with three naves divided by square pillars and concluded by as many apses, was largely rebuilt following the damage suffered during the last war.
The Rocca di Castellina is a massive building that stands imposingly on the main square.
Since 2006, the Rocca has been home to the Sienese Chianti Archaeological Museum. The museum, created using innovative technologies, presents the history of the ancient landscapes of the entire Chianti area.
